March Equipment Sales
5/6/2003
March equipment sales featured three buying trends that have come to define the golf marketplace in recent months. Discounting remained a prominent theme in most equipment categories. While there was growth in unit sales in certain categories, such as woods and irons, retailers were getting fewer dollars per sale than they were during the same month in 2002. Ball sales, the category most closely tied to rounds played, remained weak, according to data compiled by Kissimmee, Fla.-based Golf Datatech. The one positive: Short-game items (putters and wedges) continued to command premium prices.
