The woods, wedges and shoes categories reported sales gains in October, according to Golf Datatech LLC, a Kissimmee, Fla.-based industry research firm. Sales of woods rose 6.3 percent in dollars and 2.8 percent in units compared with October 2002, suggesting an increased demand for higher-priced products. Wedge dollar sales increased 2 percent while the number of units sold rose 2.3 percent compared with the same period a year ago. Shoe dollar sales climbed 2.7 percent while the number of pairs sold increased 2.9 percent from October 2002. The ball category remained in decline as dollar sales fell marginally while the number of balls sold (per dozen) dropped 2.7 percent.
