July Equipment Sales
9/9/2004
Equipment sales rose across several product categories in July but dropped for the third consecutive month in putters, according to Golf Datatech LLC, a Kissimmee, Fla.-based research firm. Putter sales declined 5.7 percent in dollars and 2.3 percent in units compared with the same month a year ago. The drop-off follows sales declines during May and June. The metalwoods category also registered a 3.5 percent decline in dollar sales for July, but unit sales increased 6.6 percent, a result of widespread price discounting. The biggest gains during July were recorded in the irons and shoes categories. Dollar sales of irons and shoes rose 6.2 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively, compared with July 2003, while unit sales increased 6.3 percent and 9 percent, respectively.
